I wrote to you about a police complaint, you didn’t do anything
I investigate all complaints I receive or I refer them to the Chief Constable if they are operational matters. It is operational matters that upset the public, in that I cannot intervene, and several people have complained to me about this. However, I cannot get involved because Parliament wrote this in law. However, things are changing, the Home Secretary has said that PCC’s will take ownership of initial Police complaints later this year, which is something I welcome, I have always said police should not investigate police.
As part of ensuring the Dorset public are able to be fully engaged in all matters of policing in Dorset I shall be publishing performance measurements regarding Police complaints from now on.
