To Keep You Safe Online
In my term I have funded the creation of the Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT). POLIT will be increased in size to meet the huge increase in demand.
Additionally, we have already undertaken a pan Dorset cyber-crime awareness campaign, and this campaign will continue to inform the public about keeping safe.
However, there are two new areas I will target in my next term, and that is informing youth of the dangers of cyber enabled crime and of helping businesses to stay safe online.
For our youth, the Safer Schools Communities Team will increase their strength by one post, and this person will be responsible for working with schools and youth organisations to better inform our next generation of the dangers of sexting, online bullying and online abuse.
Additionally, I will appoint a Business Champion in my office, who will drive a new Business Crime Strategy. The Business Champion will be there to advise businesses, take charge of business related complaints against police and train Dorset business SME staff on traditional crime prevention methods and online safety.
I will continue to build on my relationships with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) the Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and the Business Improvement Districts (BID’s) to work together to improve the police response to traditional and online business crime.
