What does the Chief Constable do?

The Chief Constable is responsible for all operational matters within Dorset Police and it is imperative that she is able to make operational decisions independently of the PCC.  It is not the role of the PCC to interfere with those decisions but to hold the Force to account for them.  This separation of powers is similar to that of, say, the Leader of the Council and the Chief Executive.  I have been sometimes been accused of not getting involved when asked about specific operational matters.  I make no apology for that and will continue this practice because if I were to interfere with the operational running of the Force both my position and that of the Chief Constable would become untenable.

Once the operational matter is finished, I do often get involved to learn lessons or hold the Force to account.
